PPA Marks 6% Increase in Monthly Iron Ore Exports zoomPort of Port Hedland Australias Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) recorded 36.6 million tonnes (Mt) of iron ore exports in March, an increase of 2.1Mt or 6% from the same month in 2014, suggesting that Chinas demand for iron ore is not subsiding despite a weak market. PPA delivered a total monthly throughput of 50.1 million tonnes (Mt) for the month of March. The port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 37.1Mt, an increase of 1.9Mt or 5% from the same month in 2014, and the third largest volume ever. The Port of Dampier delivered a total monthly throughput of 13.1Mt, a slight decrease of 1.5Mt or 11% from the previous year. Imports totalled 64,000 tonnes, an increase of 20,000 tonnes or 45% from the same month in 2014.
