Radioactive Waste Ship Adrift off Scotland

M/V ParidaThe loss of power was caused by the fire that broke out in one of the vessels funnels while it was carrying the radioactive cargo from Scrabster to Antwerp.
The fire was reportedly put down, and no injuries have been reported so far.
A spokesman for the Coastguard said: “She had a fire in one of her funnels around 8pm so they immediately switched off the engines.
She’s been drifting roughly south west, but they’ve dropped the anchor to try and stop her drifting.”
The 5,850-dwt Ro-Ro Parida is now some 20 nautical miles south east of Wick. At around 10 pm local time Tuesday, an emergency tug had been sent to assist the vessel.
