Repaired Anthem of the Seas Gets Underway

Royal Carribean Royal Caribbeans storm damaged cruise ship Anthem of the Seas sailed away from Cape Liberty on Saturday, February 13th to Bayonne, having passed all safety tests and inspections. According to RCL, the ship is safe and seaworthy. The storm-damaged cruise ship, Anthem of the Seas returned to the Liberty Cruise Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey, Wednesday evening after it was battered by a hurricane storm off Cape Hatteras that weekend, damaging the ship’s public areas and cabins. While most damage was cosmetic, during the storm the port azipod, which is one component of the vessel’s propulsion system, burned out all four clutches. As a precaution, this azipod was shut down for the return voyage to Bayonne, the US Coast Guard said. Technicians aboard the cruise ship have also replaced the clutches on both the starboard and port azipods as a precaution. In addition, all critical safety and lifesaving systems were tested by the vessel under the supervision of the Bahamas and the U.S. Coast Guard officials. Minor damage to the ship’s lifeboats was addressed and tested by the lifeboat manufacturer as well. World Maritime News Staff
