Report: SHI to Build Four Tankers for Norwegian Owner

SHI Norwegian Viken Shipping has ordered four oil tankers from South Koreas shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries under a contract worth around KRW 240 billion (USD 213 million), according to Yonhap News Agency. Namely, the shipbuilder will build two oil tankers with a capacity of 123,000 dwt, while the second two vessels would feature 157,000 dwt. The latest order was placed two weeks after Samsung Heavy reached an agreement to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, scheduled to be delivered in 2018, for Monaco-based owner and operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers GasLog. Ordered under a contract worth around KRW 420 billion, the LNG carriers will feature a capacity of 180,000 m3 each. With these orders, the shipbuilder has met 11 percent of its annual order target of USD 5.3 billion, Yonhap said. The additions to its orderbook come on the back of Samsung Heavy Industries’ reduced loss seen in the second quarter of 2016. Namely, the shipbuilder reported a net loss of KRW 212.3 billion, compared to a net loss of KRW 1.15 trillion in the same quarter of 2015. World Maritime News Staff
