zoom An ammonium sulfate-laden general cargo ship ran aground due to rudder failure in the Dardanelles, Turkey, at around 3 am local time, according to local media. The Panama-flagged Ibrahim Konan reportedly experienced problems with steering while trying to maneuver around the Cape Nara, near the town of Eceabat. The crew is reportedly safe, and the hull has not been breached. Local authorities dispatched one tug boat to assist the 2006-built freighter. The 7,618 dwt Ibrahim Konan was en route from Novorossiysk, Russia, to Aboukir, Egypt. The ship is owned by Kuneni Shipping Trading Co., and managed by Konan Denizcilik Ltd.
