Ships Collide in Houston Ship Channel

zoomHuston Ship Channel A chemical tanker collided with a container vessel on Thursday, March 5 while underway in the Houston Ship Channel. Following the collision between Hamburg Süds containership Monte Alegre and the chemical tanker Chembulk Houston, vessel movements were halted between LT26 and LT42 in the Channel as a precaution measure. The U.S. Coast Guard Houston VTS reopened the Houston Ship Channel to all traffic later in the afternoon, GAC USA said in an update. Based on the latest data from Marine Traffic, the 71,273-tonne containership is moored in Houston port together with Singapore-flagged 16,922-tonne tanker Chembulk Houston. There was no pollution and or injuries, as reported by the US Coast Guard. The collision is under investigation. World Maritime News Staff
