Sponson Installation on Costa Concordia Resumes
The two companies said last week that a request for the installation of the only sponson S12 had been withdrawn on Tuesday, April 29 and that, at the same time, a confirmation of the request for authorization of the installation of the total of 18 sponsons still to be positioned (including S12), had been sent to the Observatory.
“Costa Crociere and Titan Micoperi are working to provide some further documents regarding environmental aspects related to transportation options different from traditional towing, as requested by the Observatory,” a press release of the Parbuckling project team read.
During the night, installation of starboard sponson S11, the third of the 19 to be installed, was completed.
Currently, there are still 12 sponsons to be installed on the starboard side and 4 on the port side of the Concordia.
Tomorrow technicians will start operations on the fourth starboard sponson, S10, the Parbuckling project team added.

In parallel, work on completing the documentation requested by the Observatory will be shared as soon as possible with the authorities.
Over 350 technicians are currently working 24/7 on the Concordia removal operations; more than 120 are divers.
