Traffic Resumes after Bulker Grounds in Bosphorus

Shipspotting The 52,980 dwt bulk carrier Star Harmony ran aground in the Bosphorus Strait in the area of Yeniköy, Istanbul, in the morning hours of December 21, according to data provided by GAC Turkey. Prior to the incident, the 189-metre bulk carrier, which was fully laden with corn, suffered an engine failure. Coastal safety tugs had been dispatched to assist the ship and the Bosphorus was closed at 08.20 hours local time to transit traffic. At the time of the incident, the vessel was sailing the Bosphorus without a pilot on board. As the bulkers position was not affecting vessel traffic in the area, the transits resumed at 09.45 hours.
