TUI Cruises New Ships Hit Milestone at Meyer Turku

zoomIllustration; Image Courtesy: Meyer Turku Two new cruise ships, being built for Hamburg-based cruise company TUI Cruises, have entered the next stage of construction at Finnish Meyer Turku shipyard. Namely, the shipbuilder held a keel laying ceremony for the companys New Mein Schiff 1 and launched the construction of New Mein Schiff 2 at its yard. Designed to be an evolution on the foundation of Mein Schiff 6, the two cruise ships will be longer with 315 meters compared to the 295 meters featured by the previous ships. At 111,500 gross tons, the 35-meter-wide vessel will be able to accommodate around 2,894 passengers. With the new Mein Schiff 1 and new Mein Schiff 2 the ratio of space per passenger will stay the same as the previous ships at a generous 40 square meters, Wybcke Meier, CEO from TUI Cruises, said. When the new Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 go into service, we will be operating one of the most modern fleets in the world. Both ships are characterized by innovative and environmentally-friendly construction methods, as well as state-of-the-art technology standards, Meier added. Meyer Turku will deliver New Mein Schiff 1 in spring 2018 and New Mein Schiff 2 in 2019.
