Two More Bulkers Detained in Singapore

Sinotrans-CSC Two bulk carriers, China-flagged Chang Hang Jin Hai and Liberian Aurelia, were detained in Singapore waters, most likely due to unresolved payments, according to Supreme Court of Singapores records. The 2012-built bulker Chang Hang Jin Hai, managed by China Changjiang National Shipping Group, was arrested in the morning hours of March 9, while the other vessel was seized a day earlier. Exact reasons behind the actions are yet to be confirmed. The vessels, both measuring in over 58,000 dwt, were taken into custody following instructions from local law companies Oon & Bazul LLP and Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP. Focal Investigation & Security Agency Pte Ltd has been appointed for security and investigation purposes related to the arrests. Only a week ago, the supreme courts records showed that a 1994-built bulk carrier Magic Orient, owned by South Korean company Boyang Shipping, was arrested at the end of February. Supreme court’s data also showed that during January 2016, another two bulk carriers were detained, namely the Indian-flagged Badri Prasad and the Hong Kong-flagged Ao Hong Ma.
