Update: Maersk Pembroke Engine Fire Put Out

zoomIllustration; Image Courtesy: Maersk The fire that broke out on Tuesday, August 22 in an auxiliary engine of Maersk Pembroke containership while en route to Montreal, Canada has been extinguished. It (the fire) has been contained and extinguished and power has now been restored to the vessel, including power to the reefer units, a spokesperson of Maersk Line, owner of the ship, told World Maritime News in an update. The ships crew reported the fire while some 125 nautical miles South West of Ireland. As reported earlier, the crew of the ship are safe and accounted for, and the incident did not cause any pollution to the environment. Activities remain to be underway on a contingency plan to make the vessel operational again simultaneously with an emergency tow plan. The Dutch-flagged 2,902 TEU container vessel is deployed on Maersk Line’s Canada Atlantic Express Service. World Maritime News Staff
