Update: Pirates Free Kalamos Crew

zoom Three crew members of Maltese-flagged tanker Kalamos, taken hostage earlier in February during a pirate attack off Nigeria, have been freed, local media report. The vessel is owned by the Kalamos Shipping Corporation and managed by Aeolos Management. Reportedly, the shipping company paid a ransom of USD 400,000, which resulted in the release of the three missing sailors, who were held hostage in Nigeria. The released sailors, two Greeks and one Pakistani national, have been taken to a hospital, but are reported to be in good health. The 281,000 DWT M/T Kalamos, carrying 23 crew members onboard, was attacked at Qua Iboe, a sea area between Cameroon and Nigeria, on February 3rd. During the attack  one sailor, the vessel’s deputy captain, was killed. Greek-owned tanker was pending unloading when it got attacked. World Maritime News Staff
