Update: Storage Tank Fire near Port of Santos Rages On

zoom Over a hundred of firefighters are battling to contain the fire that broke out on Thursday, April 2nd at Latin Americas largest fuel tank storage facility run by Ultracargo located near the port of Santos, Brazil. Three fuel tanks out of six initially hit by the blaze were still burning on Sunday, Reuters said citing the fire department and Ultracargo. The affected tanks contain gasoline and ethanol, as informed by Ultracargo. The firefighting efforts were aimed at preventing the fire from spreading further as the teams on site could not extinguish the tanks already ablaze. The firefighters evacuated the area and there were no victims reported, the company informed. The cause of the fire is yet unknown. The port of Santos closed two of its docks due to the fire, while the other 53 were operating normally, according to Reuters. Ultracargos Santos facility has a storage capacity of up to 301,300 cubic meters of fuels, chemicals, vegetable oils, ethanol and corrosive products. World Maritime News Staff; Image: Youtube
