Update: USCG Reopens Port of Virginia

Port of Virginia The United States Coast Guard (USCG) reopened the Port of Virginia in the morning hours of March 14 (local time), after it was closed due to forecasted winds of up to 50 knots. “The Port of Virginia is now open without restrictions, Capt. Rick Wester, captain of the port, said. However, as long as adverse weather conditions exist, I strongly urge all mariners to exercise caution, be mindful of developing forecasts and report any potential hazards to navigation,” the captain added. The USCG closed the port in the evening hours of March 13. Ships were not allowed to enter or depart Chesapeake Bay. Vessels having a gross tonnage of 5,000 tons and larger could not move within the bay without the permission of the captain of the port.
