USCG Continues Oil Spill Clean Up off Louisiana

USCG More than 4,400 gallons of oily-water mixture have been recovered following an oil spill from a pipeline near Bay Long, Louisiana, which occurred on September 5. An estimated 5,300 gallons of crude oil was discharged from the Harvest Pipeline Companys pipeline after a subcontractor for Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company tracked over it with a marsh excavator while performing restoration activities. To date, 147 personnel, 36 boats, 11 skimmers, and more than 12,000 feet of hard-boom have been deployed to contain and recover the product, the United States Coast Guard said. The vessel’s owner contracted ECM Maritime Services, an oil response organization, to manage clean-up operations. Aerial assessments are being conducted of the site and surrounding areas to guide response efforts. The incident is under investigation.
