Vale Hits a Snag in Mozambique

zoomPort of Nacala Last weeks collapse of a giant coal stacker at Port of Nacala will delay Brazilian mining giant Vales plans to start coal shipments from this Mozambican port in the third quarter of 2015, Reuters reports. Sources familiar to the matter told Reuters that the contractors were investigating the incident and a report on why the stacker buckled last week was expected within a couple of weeks. The necessary repairs could take months, another source said. The stacker was in the final stages of construction when it collapsed. Vale uses the Port of Nacala and connecting railway to ship coal from its Moatize coal mine, which is expected to produce 22 million tons of coal by 2017. World Maritime News Staff
