Cometas Shipping Company Cometas Shipping Company was founded on March 13th 1991 in Mariupol, Ukraine by three sound shareholders: Azov Shipping Company, “Azovstal” Metallurgical Plant and Zasyadko Coal Mine. At that time the Company possessed only one vessel m/v “Zaporozhye” (DWT 22 896 mt).

Consolidating the relationship with foreign partners the staff of Cometas Shipping Company in 1994 successfully has performed joint project with RZB Bank London. The Project included Bare-Boat Chartering of three vessels: m/v “Manley Falmouth” (DWT 16250 mt), m/v “Manley Devon” (DWT 14588 mt) and mv “Manley Exeter” (DWT 14588 mt). Soon two more vessels were added to the project: in November of 1995 – m/v “Mariupol Star” (DWT 15927 mt) and in June 1996 – m/v “Manley Havant”.

December of 1995 was the most successful for “Cometas”: m/v “Manley Falmouth” was purchased and renamed to m/v “Cometas”, and then m/v “Azovlloyd”(former “Manley Devon”) became the property of the Company. Achievements of the company were awarded by the international reward "The Birmingham Torch".

On 19th of December 1996 Cometas Shipping Company (one of the first in Ukraine) successfully passed certification on adherence to the International Management Code for the safe operation of ships and for pollution prevention and was granted Certificates of American Bureau of Shipping. The certification of all Company’s vessels has been completed by the 1st July, 1998.

Nowadays the major Company’s activity is rendering services in operational management of ships including technical, ISM/ISPS and commercial functions. supply of stores, spare parts, lubricating and fuel oils,
maintenance of the vessels, including repairs and dry docking, keeping records and ensuring that the vessels are well provided with all certificates, manuals and other documents required for the international merchant shipping.
Our long-term collaboration with world-wide known suppliers such as BP Marine/Castrol (UK), Wilhelmsen (Norway), SigmaKalon (Belgium), Bolier-MaK (The Netherlands), MAN Diesel (Germany), Neptune (Italy) enables us to get considerable discounts and retain high level of management service.

The Company holds the Document of Compliance approved by Lloyd Register.
In the sphere of maritime insurance the Company is ready to allocate the risks of our clients depending on their requirements. Cometas Shipping Company is a shareholder of “Azov Insurance Company” which specializes in marine risks insurance and has always been absolutely reputable and trustworthy company not only in Ukraine but also at the International Insurance Market.
According to data of National Committee of Statistics Cometas became a winner in International Projects which took place in Ukraine. Particularly in 2007 our Company took the second place among Ukrainian Companies in a contest "The International transport projects of Ukraine" in the nomination of “Leasing of other transport facilities”.
