Denholm Group

The Denholm Group is a group of companies owned by the Denholm family that operates businesses in a number of diverse markets in order to provide a diversification of opportunity and risk for its shareholders.

Our holding company is J. & J. Denholm Limited. This company derives its name from the original business that was formed in Greenock by James and John Denholm in 1866 and it is their descendants that own the company today.

We started out as a Ship Agency business but over the years we have moved into new businesses so that today our business areas are Shipping, Logistics, Seafoods and Oilfield Services. We have a turnover of ?300m, employ over 3,000 people and have net assets of ?100m.

Our key assets are our people and they and our businesses all share our values of fairness, achievement, integrity and respect.

We are proud of our past but are ambitious for the future.

Shipping Division

Denholm is a name synonymous with shipping and the Denholm Group has owned over 100 ships since the purchase of the sailing ship David Sinclair in 1872. Today the shipping business is co-ordinated by Denholm Shipping Company Limited and comprises ship owning, commercial operations and technical management.

We invest in ships when we see opportunity and divest when we believe that opportunity has been realised. Following a period of divestment as shipping markets peaked our investments in ships comprise full ownership of "Saga Andorinha" a 45,000 DWT Open hatch bulkcarrier built in 1998 and a 9% interest in Hadley Shipping Company which owns three panama bulkcarriers and a containership.

Our commercial operations comprise Denholm Coates who are shipbrokers specialising in the bulk carrier, container and offshore markets and Fairwind Shipping who provide advice on shipping matters to banks and other financial institutions.

Our technical management activity comprises our 26% interest in the Anglo Eastern following their acquisition of Denholm Ship Management in 2002. Anglo Eastern are one of the worlds leading ship management companies. They manage over 600 ships from their operational offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Glasgow, Antwerp and Bremen.
