The crystal clear waters of the bays of the Barents Sea have significant water resources and favorable climatic conditions for the development of the fishing industry: the North Atlantic Current provides the most comfortable water temperature for salmon farming.

In 2005, in the village of Liinakhamari, the Russian Salmon company was founded to create a single technological chain for the production of Atlantic salmon in seawater. The enterprise became the first Russian company to start growing Atlantic salmon on an industrial scale in the Pechenga and Ambarnaya bays of the Barents Sea.

The production activity began in August 2007 - the first fish farm consisting of 6 fish cages was established in the Ambarnaya Bay. In the same year, the first import of Atlantic salmon smolt from Norway was carried out. In total, from 2007 to 2013. 7 farms have been created, including more than 140 cages.

Since 2010, the enterprise has supplied to the market of the Russian Federation more than 44 thousand tons of Atlantic salmon (salmon) grown in the water area of ??the Pechenga Bay of the Barents Sea.
Within the production program of the 2020, in May and August, in the fish farms of the Russian Salmon company located in the Malaya Volokovaya Bay, a planned stocking of 3.7 million pieces of Atlantic salmon with smolt was carried out.
Since 2021, the Russian Salmon company has been importing 4 million smolts annually. The company has 10 licenses for the water area, which will allow to grow more than 30 thousand tons of salmon annually.
At present, the “Russian Salmon” have a live fish vessel, 4 modern feeding platforms, 19 work vessels, the company has installed cage systems of the latest generation for growing salmon, which made it possible to increase the efficiency of fish growing. Creation and maintenance of cage farms, fleet, equipment are carried out by their own service departments.
The well-built logistics system at the enterprise allows ensuring the minimum delivery time for finished products to the Russian market: no more than 1 day to St. Petersburg and no more than 2 days to Moscow.
Further plans for the development of Russian Salmon in 2021 and 2022 provide for the construction of a production site. More than 50 new jobs will be created within the factory itself and at least 100 jobs in related industries that service and supply the enterprise. The production and household systems of the enterprise will be equipped with the most modern purification equipment. Currently, the project is in the process of going through approvals and obtaining a building permit.

The implementation of these goals will make it possible to create the first enterprise on the territory of the North-West Federal District specializing in waste-free and environmentally friendly processing of live Atlantic salmon and sea trout, to achieve an almost completely closed production cycle of fish products with high added value, to provide residents of the Pechenga region and the Liinakhamari village with highly paid workers. in some places (the enterprise is the only operating enterprise on the territory of Liinakhamari settlement).
The implementation of the project fully meets the tasks set by the President of the Russian Federation in the field of import substitution, food security and aquaculture development.
