Education and Training:
At least to the minimum education and training of a Technical or Marine
Superintendent. Other relevant training, qualifications and experience as
determined by the General Manager.
Responsibilities:
Responsible to the General Manager for the efficient technical and commercial
operation of all vessels within the appropriate fleet or as designated. This shall
include, but it is not limited to, the following:
• Monitoring of legislative and regulatory requirements to ensure their assigned
vessels are operated and maintained in full compliance with all Class, Flag
Administration, Governmental and International Regulations;
• Ensure that the Buyers register and process all requisitions from the vessels,
Superintendents and any other personnel as appropriate, checking that these
are actioned and followed through efficiently without unnecessary delay;
• Monitor current budget status of all vessels, ensuring that the Buyers are
aware of the current budgetary situation and that they keep the relevant
Superintendent / Ship Manager advised of any cost centres which are
approaching or exceeding their appropriation;
• Determine Company policy on all operational matters, establishing
procedures to be followed by staff in the performance of their duties;
• Ensuring that all operational staff comply with Company standards and
perform their function in accordance with the respective management
agreement and clients instructions (provided they are legal and do not
jeopardise the safety of the vessel);
• Ensuring that all dry dock and repair specifications are approved and agreed
with General Manager prior to approval by the Owners (if required) and prior
to submission to repair yards for tender;
• Review and renegotiate as appropriate and approval for payment all dry-
docking and major repair bills (N.B. Superintendents are permitted to sign
such bills for “work done only” and not for cost);
• Approve all management reports prior to being sent to clients;
• Make in consultation with the Superintendent, recommendations to the
General Manager regarding the re-allocation of responsibility for vessels
within the Operations Department;
• Maintain channels of communication with Principals as considered necessary
and beneficial to the Company’s relationship with clients;

JOB DESCRIPTION
• The Fleet Manager will make brief periodic visits to vessels in order to monitor
condition of vessel, assess performance of Superintendents, and to attend to
minor repairs as and when circumstances require;
• In conjunction with the General Manager, he shall review all draft budget
proposals prepared by the Ship Manager and Superintendent prior to same
being submitted to Owner;
• Conduct annual appraisals of departmental staff; identifying training
requirements as appropriate;
• Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team in the event of a
contingency;
• To act as alternate Designated Person Ashore (DPA) for allocated vessels;
• Ensure appropriate notification is given to Flag and Class authorities
regarding related deficiencies onboard fleet vessels.
