Description: To provide the best possible medical service to passengers and crew.
Requirements: The Nurse’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversee and maintain cleanliness of the medical centre
- Maintain all passenger and crew illness logs according to policy
- Maintain all injury logs according to policy and fill out accident reports as they arise
- First aid training for crew
- Maintenance of all crew files and yearly crew medicals
- Order and maintain proper medical inventory
- Train and lead stretcher team in Fire and Lifeboat drills
- Execute and have good working knowledge of Code Alpha and evacuation procedures.
- Properly dispose of hazardous waste as well as needles and blades
- Obtain water samples and culture for growth of E.coli twice weekly
- Provide first aid supplies for first aid boxes
- Maintain diarhea log in accordance to U.S.P.H. regulations
- Assist in mandatory drug testing
- Maintain records and counts of narcotics
- Execute and have a good working knowledge of all paperwork associated with the medical centre
- Maintain current medications in lifeboat canisters
Education: Associate or Bachelor Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
Experience:
- A minimum of three years clinical experience after graduation.
- Practical experience in ACLS
- Prefer background in Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit or Coronary Care Unit.
Responsibilities: Reports to the Doctor
Holds a Basic Safety Course Certificate and appropriate licenses and certificates as required by regulations.
The nurse shall be responsible for the following duties associated with the medical department:
- The Nurse shall be familiar with and active in the Safety Management System including responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill
- Maintain passenger illness log and medical notes. Complete all paperwork associated with various medical situations
- Maintain crew illness log and crew medical files. This file shall accompany the crewmember from ship to ship in accordance with company policy
- Maintain injury log and fill out accident reports as they arise
- Maintain current crew physicals
- Maintain diarhea log for U.S.P.H. and send weekly U.S.P.H. fax
- Maintain records of hospital charges and take to accountant daily
- Execute and have knowledge of Code Alpha procedure
- Execute and have knowledge of air and land evacuation procedures
- Train and lead stretcher team in Fire and Lifeboat drills
- Restock first aid boxes frequently
- Obtain water samples and culture for growth of E-Coli twice weekly. Take samples before supplying of F/W commence
- Weekly check of emergency equipment and maintenance of all equipment
- Sterilize surgical instruments
- Order medical supplies and equipment. Maintain proper levels of inventory AMOS-D
- Maintenance of current medications in lifeboat canisters once a year
- Make and distribute on call schedules
- Properly dispose of used and dirty sharps (needles, syringes)
- Maintain hospital, clinic and office in a clean and orderly fashion
- Be an active participant in crew education and training
- Maintain records and counts of narcotics
- Ensure confidentiality of medical information
- Properly fill out and distribute all forms associated with the medical department
- Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SEMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
Special Requirements:
Valid nursing license in country, or State/Province of origin.
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, within one year of application.
Ability to manage Basic Life support until the physician arrives.
Fluent in the English language.
Chronology of all medical activities since graduation from nursing school.
Three letters of recommendation from institutions and or supervisors.
Conditions:
Contract length - 16 weeks on and 8 weeks off
Starting NET salary - $4,838 – per month
FREE living accommodations, all meals, uniforms and transportation between the ship and the home airport.
