The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Marine Mechanic to join our Hatteras team to maintain and repair diesel engines and other marine equipment.
In this role, you will:
⦁ Perform work ranging from general, routine assignments to moderately complexity requiring marine mechanical knowledge acquired through on-the-job training dealing with ferry vessels.
⦁ Repair and overhaul diesel engines, involving the disassembly, inspection, and re-assembly of valves, pistons, rings, connecting rods, crankshaft, camshaft, bearings, timing gears and chains, valve mechanisms, injectors, and pumps.
⦁ Repair and adjust reduction gears, clutches, and couplings.
⦁ Replace propeller shafts and bearings and aligns to engines.
⦁ Repair and overhaul fire pumps, bilge pumps, and hydraulic pumps.
What You Bring
⦁ Working knowledge of the operating principles of diesel and gasoline engines.
⦁ Knowledge of the operating principles of reduction gears and hydraulic systems, air and electric control systems, and vacuum and pressure pumps.
⦁ Demonstrated ability to determine the causes of and procedures to follow in repairing malfunctioning equipment.
Education & Experience
⦁ High school/GED diploma, and
⦁ 3+ years experience in the repair of diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, hydraulic, air and electric systems, and components, preferably in the ship repair or shipbuilding industry; or
⦁ An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Notes
⦁ This position has a 7 days on / 7 days off schedule.
⦁ Housing may be available for the 7-day working shift in our Ferry dorms.
