The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Maintenance/Construction Supervisor III to join our Ferry team.

In this role, you will:
⦁ Focus on the maintenance and repair of NCDOT Ferry facilities and facility systems.
⦁ Develop project plans.
⦁ Produce accurate project cost estimates.
⦁ Assist with yearly budget creation and tracking.
⦁ Make final technical decisions on project plans.
⦁ Identify and coordinate with local contractors to support Unit work plans.
⦁ Administer our work order system.
⦁ Requisition and purchase material and supplies.
⦁ Maintain stock procedure for tools, parts, and supplies.
⦁ Advise management on the technical aspects of maintaining, replacing, and renovating facilities.
⦁ Supervise up to 15 direct reports, all of whom will be Maintenance Technicians.
⦁ Develop performance plans tailored to each employee.
⦁ Review and evaluate staff's work.
⦁ Identify and provide staff with professional growth opportunities and supporting their career development through direct training and guidance.
⦁ Interview and recommend applicants for vacant positions.
⦁ Counsel and discipline staff when necessary.
⦁ Be a key part of our Unit Management team that develops and manages our budget and prioritizes projects.
⦁ Organize Unit tasks and keep track of task status' using software.
⦁ Assign tasks to crew members.
⦁ Report on projects and maintenance tasks as directed by management.
⦁ Work under limited administrative and minimal technical supervision.
⦁ Inspect facilities regularly for maintenance needs and hazards.

What You Bring
⦁ Knowledge of repair, maintenance, and construction techniques and of the tools, methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.
⦁ Working knowledge of building codes, environmental rules, and all other rules/regulations governing repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities.
⦁ Demonstrated ability to direct journey-level work in a variety of trades, read schematics and blueprints, sketch draft technical drawings, and estimate repair and construction projects.
⦁ Demonstrated ability to perform administrative duties using hardware/software so the Unit is well organized, plans are fully developed and carried out to completion, and tasks and projects are tracked effectively.
⦁ Demonstrated experience with, and demonstrated ability to use, Microsoft Office, web-based meeting platforms, and other common office technologies.

Notes
⦁ The role requires frequent travel to the Manns Harbor Shipyard, Currituck-Knotts Island Ferry, Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry, Swan Quarter Ferry, Pamlico River Ferry, and the Harbinger Marine Maintenance Office/Yard.
⦁ Overnight travel is not regular, but may be necessary for certain projects.
⦁ We may require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, Ill or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.

Education & Experience
⦁ Associate's degree in construction management, air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology, and
⦁ 3+ years experience in construction or facility maintenance, including
⦁ 2+ years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance or repair of buildings/facilities; or

⦁ High school/GED diploma, and
⦁ 5+ years experience in facility maintenance or construction, including
⦁ Journey-level experience in 3+ building or mechanical trades, including
⦁ 2+ years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance or repair of buildings/facilities; or

⦁ An equivalent combination of education and experience.
