The Challenge
We are looking for a Marine Electrician to join our team in Ocracoke Operations and Cedar Island.
In this role, you will:
⦁ Perform and direct the maintenance and repair of marine electrical systems on ferries and dredges and support vessels.
⦁ Maintain and repair electrical/electro-mechanical systems of ferries and dredges operated by our Division of Ferries.
⦁ Participate in and supervise the installation, maintenance, and repair of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.
⦁ Assist our Chief Engineer in preparing and inspecting electrical repairs performed by contractors and during annual shipyard overhauls.
⦁ Assist other Ferry teams and may require overnight travel.
What You Bring
⦁ Knowledge of marine electrical systems and required maintenance and repair needs.
⦁ Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices in the installation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of marine electrical and electromechanical systems.
⦁ Skill in the detection, diagnoses, maintenance, and repairs of marine electrical systems.
⦁ Demonstrated ability to verbally and in writing communicate complex marine electrical systems problems.
⦁ Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Education and Experience
⦁ High school/GED diploma, and
⦁ 4+ years experience in marine electrical and electro-mechanical systems maintenance/repair; or
⦁ An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Notes
⦁ This role generally works shift work that is 7 days on and 7 days off, but your schedule may be altered at management’s discretion as well as assignment of routine daily duties.
⦁ When working the night shift, you will get 10% shift bonus pay.
⦁ Your maintenance and repairs will be performed without technical supervision; however, complex electrical repair problems may be performed under the general supervision of a maintenance supervisor and are reviewed and evaluated through the continued and reliable operation of all electrical systems and their ability to meet US Coast Guard requirements.
