Job Purpose/Summary:
Troubleshoots and repairs main and auxiliary engines, repair electrical AC & DC systems. Maintains and performs upgrades to all phases of marine vessels and barge systems. This is to include management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials, proper utilization of resources and strategic planning that lends itself to absolute minimum downtime of company equipment. Associated skills required are the ability to perform accurate diagnostic evaluations and service/repair recommendations. A high level of cost sensitivity and professionalism is required, as the position will occasionally require serving as owners’ representative. Additionally, safe operation of yard equipment and machinery is required.
Essential Functions:
Vessel Maintenance and Repair
Performs preventative maintenance, repairs and upgrades to vessels and equipment in accordance with company standards and regulatory agencies.
Assists in diagnostic evaluations of machinery.
Adheres to all company policies.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Proper knowledge and use of hand/power tools.
Ability to effectively communicate both in verbal and written form.
Thorough understanding of equipment operation manuals, drawings, charts, graphs, and blueprints.
Basic computer skills.
Basic welding and fabrication.
Experience in overhaul and maintenance of diesel propulsion and auxiliary engines.
Experience with Z-Drive propulsion systems preferred.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Education or equivalent education required. Followed by two or more years of formal education resulting in Associate’s Degree is preferred. Understand operational theory of marine and industrial diesel fuelled engines, 5 years of experience. Ability to repair and operate a wide range of machinery including engines, winches, motors, transmissions. Basic diagnostic and repair abilities with regard to marine subsystems such as pneumatic control systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and fuel systems.
Physical/Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be involved with frequent use of lifting tools such as chain hoists, slings, and general rigging. Must be able to ascend/descend stairs and ladders, must have good agility and the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
