Position: Manager of Operations Location: Montreal, Quebec Working Hours: Full time, permanent with benefit
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and manage the Operations services activities and personnel, namely: laytime, port disbursement, auditing, and cargo documentation
Mentor, supervise, and guide the Operations services team members
Monitor and assess personnel performance, assess and implement development or training plans for the Operations services team members
Assist and support the Senior Operations Manager with the day-to-day management of the Operations Department and fleet activities:
Help monitor the fleet: optimization of revenue (routing, cargo lifts, speed/consumption, load/discharge operation) and cost control
Guide and assist fleet operators
Approve billings (freight, contractual claims and off-hires) and payments (hire, port disbursements, vendor invoices)
Assist Senior Operations Manager and Vice-President of Operations as and when required on miscellaneous projects and initiatives
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum 5 to 7 years previous experience in a similar operations role within the dry bulk shipping sector is essential
University or Maritime degree in a related field, Seagoing experience is considered an asset
Previous leadership experience in managing teams is required:
Excellent motivating, mentoring, and coaching skills
Ability to build relationships and develop trust
Natural capacity to foster teamwork and to create a positive environment
Ability to develop a culture of continuous improvement
Natural self-starting skills, results driven and strong problem solver
Facility to control costs
Proficient in MS Office suite
