The Deck Cadet is a Trainee Officer. The training consists of periods of time spent in a maritime college where you will receive academic and practical knowledge and periods of time spent on board ship where you will receive further practical training and complete portfolio work.
All Trainee Officers complete a training program delivered under the authority of the maritime Safety Directorate of the Department of Transport. The program ensures that each trainee officer qualifies with a officer of the watch (OOW) professional certificate.
This sponsorship is targeted at high performing and high potential individuals who will be on B.Sc. in Nautical Science program.
Key accountabilities While in maritime college, to gain academic and practical knowledge.
While on board ship, to observe and assist in :
Navigational and bridge watch keeping duties as directed by the Master.
Cargo handling, mooring and other practical operations as directed by the Chief Officer
Assist in the maintenance of safety equipment on board your assigned vessels.
Assist in the maintenance of general ships equipment as directed by the Chief Officer.To carry out any other tasks as assigned by the Master or Chief Officer. To become familiar and comply with the relevant contents of the Fleet Operating Management System Manuals
Essential Education Educational Requirements:
1. Applicant must hold the Leaving Certificate with Grade D3 in five subjects at ordinary or Higher level which must include mathematics and either English or Irish.
2. Candidates must already be enrolled in 1st year of National Maritime College of Ireland.
NOTE: Offer of sponsorship is conditional on :
1. Complete and pass educational requirements
2. Complete and pass a company medical
3. Satisfactory background checks
