Port Engineer
Location: HOS Port (Port Fourchon, LA)
I. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Port Engineer plans and executes within the budget and policy constraints of the Operations Department, the company's fleet maintenance activities, fleet certification and regulatory compliance.
II. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
The Port Engineer reports directly to the Director of Operations, GOM with a peer relationship to the Vessel Group Managers.
III. AUTHORITY
Authority of the Port Engineer shall be as directed by the Director of Operations, GOM according to Company policies and procedures. Approval authority shall be per Company policies and as otherwise authorized on a project basis.
IV. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
· Fleet Operations, including training, management of the safety of personnel, third parties and the protection of the environment.
· Fleet Maintenance and Certification, including the management of fleet
vessel maintenance to the standards required for vessel certification by class society, flag state and local authorities, and Company maintenance programs.
V. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Functions shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
· Fleet Operations, including training of vessel engineering department personnel, scheduled and unscheduled vessel visits and operational audits to observe and address safety, protection of the environment; human and capital resources.
· Fleet Maintenance and Certification, including scheduled and unscheduled vessel visits and operational audits of the condition of the fleet and vessel apparatus as required for vessel certification required by class, flag state and local authorities and Company maintenance programs. Additionally develop necessary maintenance systems and apply new technology to affect continuous improvement in the condition of company equipment. Maintain relationships with local regulatory authorities and key service company vendors.
· Administrative, including efficient management and reporting as required by company policies and procedures.
VI. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study is preferred;
alternatively, manifold experience in marine operations may be acceptable.
Experience: Incumbent should possess a minimum of ten (10) years experience
in all aspects of management of marine vessel operations, including maintenance, regulatory compliance, human resources, administration and customer service delivery. Experience as an OSV Chief Engineer is preferred, but not required.
VII. HOURS OF WORK
Hours of work shall be as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the job description. Extended work hours will from time to time be required, including but not limited to sailing or other extensive travel should operational matters so warrant.
VIII. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Eyesight: Functional, correctable to normal.
Hearing: Incumbent must have hearing that permits him or her to communicate
effectively in the conditions that might be encountered aboard a vessel.
Mobility: Incumbent must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or
ladders safely and of performing emergency duties as listed in a typical vessel Station Bill. Incumbent may be required to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, or more with assistance.
