WHAT ARE THE DUTIES OF A SHIP AGENT? »

Organizing and coordinating the transport of passengers and goods by sea.
Organization of a
Ocean carrier operation (liner / tramp) or
Shipbroker operation (liner agent / port agency / chartering).
Negotiations with customers, clients, crew, ship suppliers and other service providers of the port industry.
Employment, scheduling, equipment, and supplies of a ship.

WHAT APPRENTICESHIP REQUIREMENTS
MUST BE MET? »

High school – or advanced technical college entrance qualification. Secondary school graduates with an exceptional good degree.
A secure and self-confident appearance.
Good communication skills.
Good / excellent command of spoken and written English/German.
A high level of operational readiness.
Willingness to work in shifts – including nights and weekends (Minimum age 18 years)
Teamwork and open-mindedness.

WHAT DOES SARTORI & BERGER OFFER

Salary by collective agreements
Surcharges for working in shifts and outside normal working time – for overtime free time compensation is granted.

In Kiel trainees of Sartori & Berger pass following departments:

Port Agency and the Kiel Canal Agency (shifts in Kiel Holtenau)
Ferry traffic on Norwegenkai,
Terminal Operations / Cargo handling / Stevedoring, Accounting,
To some extend Tourist services – Shore Excursions / Ground Handling.


At Brunsbüttel, Rostock and Hamburg the training is similar in accordance with the local site conditions and key activities.

HOW LONG THE TRAINING TAKES WITH
SARTORI & BERGER? »

3 years – with above average performances the training may be reduced to 2 ½ years.
Including 6/7 school blocks (each 4-6 weeks) in the business vocational schools in Kiel or Hamburg.
Finals with written / oral exam in the Chamber of Commerce Kiel/Hamburg.

WHAT FURTHER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
EXIST AFTER THE APPRENTICESHIP WITH S&B? »

Often directly entering into professional life (frequently abroad) for the purpose of gathering practical experience.
Multiple possibilities with further studies after the apprenticeship (business management or management studies in the transportation sector).
Possibility of nautical education with subsequent studies (acquisition of ship master’s certificate).
