Master

Job Summary
The Master has the overall command of the vessel. He has the authority and obligation to operate the vessel in accordance with applicable rules, regulations and TIMS, and take necessary actions in order to ensure the safety of the vessel, its crew

Organization
The Master is the Company Management representative on board the vessel. The Master reports to the designated shore manager of the vessel. This may be a Superintendent, operations manager or any other person designated this responsibility

Authority
The Master has the overriding authority on board, and the responsibility to make decisions with respect to safety, security and pollution prevention and to request assistance from onshore management as required.
The Master has the authority to delegate duties and tasks to crewmembers in accordance with shipboard requirements.

Education/Certification
The Master must hold a valid Deck Officer's Certificate appropriate for the tonnage of the vessel for which he is assigned.
For DP vessels - The Master must hold an unlimited DPO certificate.
Any other qualifications as required by Company Competence Matrix. This may differ dependent on Flag, country of operation, vessel type or client requirement

Working Experience
The Master must have previous working experience as Master or Chief Officer on vessel type. Exemptions can be granted with sufficient period of familiarization but must be approved by shore management
