Odfjell USA and Odfjell Terminals (Houston), located in Seabrook, are a fully integrated shipping and terminal facility for the marine transportation, land distribution, and short and long term storage of chemicals and other specialty bulk liquids. We are currently hiring for a:

Title/Position: Port Operator
Unit: OUSA Port Operations, Houston (Seabrook)
Reports to: Manager of Port Operations

The key responsibilities of the Port Operator are to take initiative to improve vessel performance in ports covered by Odfjell USA (Lake Charles, LA – Brownsville, TX range) and ensure best practices are followed. The position of Port Operator shall follow company policies and adhere to company regulations. Cooperation with and support of colleagues is expected.

Duties
• Knowledge about relevant marine logistics operational procedures, rules & regulations, both local and international
• Inform Ship Operator of vessel’s movements and prospects. Prepare port rotation suggestion and send same to Master and Ship Operator for approval
• Ensure adequate relationship and liaise with Ship Operators, Masters, charterers, shippers, receivers, port authorities, terminals, surveyors, and other parties for optimal operations
• Attend vessels on a regular basis in order to assist Master and crew with any problems and discuss further plans
• Support marketing/chartering personnel and customers and, if required, advise on operational matters when negotiating cargo contracts, as well as spot fixtures
• With the assistance of Ship Agents and Documentation Specialists, ensure that all documentation in connection with a vessel’s arrival, discharge, loading, transshipment and departure are generated and are correct, and forwarded to all needed parties
• Usage of IT applications which require computer and software knowledge (MS Office)
• Participate in the follow up of Odfjell Tankers related procedures in the Quality Management System
• Follow up of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as vessel’s time in port, metric tons transferred per hour, etc.

Qualifications/Skills
• Maritime College graduate or B.S.
• Experience with chemical ship port operations is required; experience working as Master or Deck Officer on a chemical tanker preferred
• High levels of communication and interpersonal skills
• Problem solving and situation management; ability to manage change and react quickly
• Able to handle challenging situations due to time constraints and personnel demands
• Organized and detail-oriented

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
• Office located in Seabrook, TX
• Close proximity to hazardous petrochemicals
• Requires 24/7 schedule availability
• Regular vessel boarding and attendance is required
• Some travel within and outside of the U.S. may be required
