PB Trainee Program
Pacific Basin's trainee program combines on the job training with classroom teaching and rotational familiarization through various divisions within our various businesses.

Since 2005, we have recruited over 30 graduates of 12 different nationalities into entry level positions in Pacific Basin. This shows that Pacific Basin is one of the very few shipping companies in the world that has a truly global recruitment platform for its young staff. These staff are the future and the lifeblood of the Company. Today, many of them occupy key positions within the Company including as general managers, senior chartering managers, chartering managers, operations executives, etc. It is safe to say that some of them will occupy senior management or even board level positions one day in the future.

Our new trainees start their Pacific Basin careers by spending three months in Hong Kong. During this time they spend a meaningful amount of time with various divisions in the Hong Kong office so they become familiar with a wide range of headquarters activities and responsibilities; and that they clearly understand the importance of the moving parts of our various businesses. The chief objective of the program is that they return to their regional offices with a good understanding of how the Pacific Basin group functions as a whole, coupled with the proven ability enter the business world in their chosen area and begin to function largely unsupervised with the help of various business systems and software available to them.

Our trainees also experience life on board vessels by undertaking voyage(s) to observe the loading, lashing and unloading our most critical cargoes; they are made to shadow boarding officers to grasp the importance of ships' agents; they spend time in drydocks as well as newbuilding yards; and they also benefit from training sessions with law firms and P&I clubs. We arrange a variety of social and teambuilding activities for the trainees to participate in.
We also provide full sponsorship for enrolment and course materials, including study leave, for our trainees to write their ICS (Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers) examinations.

Trainees entering our dry bulk business are expected to spend at least four years in the commercial operations division before they can be considered for other roles such as chartering. Trainees in our towage business will be required to understudy senior project management staff for similar periods of time before they can be considered for higher positions within the organisation.
We accept applications throughout the year with a view to commencing each year's program in the months of July and/or January to cater to different year ending seasons in universities around the world. Our ideal trainee would be:

1. Usually a fresh college or university graduate with a Bachelors or Masters degree.
