Job Description:
Position Title- Senior Estimator
Position Summary
The primary objective of this role is to prepare cost estimates for large-scale heavy civil construction projects, including bridges, lock & dam, flood control structures, and other marine structures.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
• Analyze plans and specs to perform quantity takeoffs
• Prepare estimates of material, labor, and equipment cost for design-build and design-bid-build projects
• Determine appropriate means and methods of construction
• Estimate various types of work including piling, concrete structures, and structural steel
• Design or coordinate design of temporary structures such as shoring, falsework, cofferdams, formwork, and templates
• Communicate with subs and suppliers regarding pricing, scope, project requirements, and terms.
• Analyze and compare quotations during bid closeout
• Assist with bid closeout and final proposal preparations
• Assist with writing technical proposals
• Prepare Primavera schedules for estimates
• Travel as required to attend meetings, site visits, training, etc.
Skills and Abilities
• Understanding of heavy civil construction means & methods
• Computer skills including HCSS HeavyBid, CAD, and MS Office
• Ability to interpret plans and specifications
• Understanding of common estimating procedures and processes
• Problem solving skills
• Decision making skills
• Effective listening skills
• Attention to detail
• Organizational skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Time management skills
• Ability to analyze data
Education/Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is required
• Ten years of relevant estimating experience is required
