Description
The Chief Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining the engine room and other mechanical systems and equipment aboard the vessel to which he/she is assigned, for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, including but not limited to compliance with flag state and classification society regulations, the seaworthiness of the vessel, the safety of the crew, protection of the environment, operational and maintenance administration and paperwork, cost control, crew supervision and on the job training, and other responsibilities that may be assigned by the vessel's Captain or that the Chief Engineer/Relief Engineer recognizes as essential to his/her responsibility as manager of the vessel's mechanical systems.
License Requirements
US Coast Guard Licensed Chief Engineer OSV or Officer in charge of an Engineering Watch
STCW-95
Oceans
No horsepower restrictions
Preferred Experience
2 years as Engineer
1 year experience as Engineer aboard OSVs
