Shipyard Representative
Location: Headquarters (Covington, LA)
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Staff position with multiple discipline engineering responsibilities having knowledge or the ability to learn equipment and systems onboard marine vessels, as well as project engineering/management activities while overseeing vessel regulatory dry dockings and repairs. These dry dockings including modifications and conversions to Company vessels with emphasis on contractual compliance, regulatory compliance and quality performance of shipyard and owner furnished equipment vendors and contractors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities shall include but not be limited to the following:
Utilize computer programs and technical software tools including basic engineering calculations to accomplish daily duties.
Requires the ability to survey and approve final acceptance of shipyard contractor and equipment supplier work and material/equipment deliveries to satisfy Company specifications, regulatory requirements and vessel functionality.
Requires the ability and knowledge to physically measure, check or otherwise determine that work product meets or exceeds Company requirements, and must be carried out following safe work practices.
Work with the Maintenance and Engineering departments to refine, improve and/or maintain a technical filing system as well as one for regulatory tracking means for all vessels in the Company’s fleet.
Fully utilize computer software necessary to draft technical emails, memos, and letters and/or construct detailed spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and any of software required for clearly illustrating the problem statement and communicating the recommendations or solutions.
Assist in maintaining an organized technical library consisting of Owners manuals, parts manuals, as well as vendor related brochures.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Marine Engineering or related engineering discipline. or equivalent industry experience. Familiarity with industry regulatory requirements and management systems would be beneficial.
Experience: Minimum of two years of industry experience.
Certification: Valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Complete computer literacy in MicroSoft Windows and MicroSoft Office applications, with potential capabilities to learn computer-drafting applications such as AutoCad R14/2000.
Capable of conducting training sessions, presentations and public speaking engagements to audiences of varying technical competencies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Eyesight: Functional, correctable to 20/20
Hearing: Functional, correctable to normal
Speech: Functional, without impediment
Mobility: Unencumbered by physical limitations to prefer vessel survey and inspection duties including: walking, climbing, crawling, lifting, pulling, reaching and vehicle driving (automatic and manual vehicles).
HOURS OF WORK
Standard hours are 0730 -- 1700 Monday through Friday excluding travel and over -time.
