Second Engineer
To supervise the daily maintenance and operation of the engine department.
Principal Accountabilities:
• Responsible for the Engine room safety and safe working practices
• The safety of all personnel working under his supervision
• The organisation and execution of all engine room watch keeping and machinery operating routines
• The maintenance, operation and upkeep of all parts of the engine room and the proper performance of maintenance in accordance with the decisions of the maintenance team and the provisions of the integrated work plan
• Carrying out routine boiler water, feed water and cooling water chemical tests. Reporting any abnormalities immediately, to the Chief Engineer. Failure to do so, will lead to disciplinary action
• Technical supervision of the engine room workforce
• Supervision, as delegated by the Chief Engineer Officer, of the spare gear/stores Petty Officer (if appointed), engine room Petty Officer and Motorman (if appointed), any ratings assigned to the engine room for specific maintenance or repair tasks, and the duty engine room ratings as applicable in certain ships
• Supervision, as delegated by the Chief Engineer Officer, of the Pumpman P.O (if appointed) when allocated to pump room and/or engine room maintenance duties
• Spare gear and its inventory
• Fire-fighting and safety equipment (including fixed fire-fighting equipment, e.g. the "CO2" or "Halon" systems on board) and safe practices in the engine room
• Carrying out any lawful command and delegated duty as issued by the Chief Engineer. and /or Master
• Keep an engine room watch or act as a duty engineer in rotation
• Maintains the technical documentation; monitors the engine’s log keeping
Required Minimum:
• Age of not more than 60 years
• Possess Class 2 Certificate of Competency (unlimited - Motor) – Second Engineer
• Have acquired 2 years of experience sailing as a Second Engineer preferably on LNG DFDE Motor vessel
• Have experienced in the role of Gas and Cargo Engineers for a minimum of 2 years
• Possess the following valid certifications of not less than 6 months and would have been recognized by the Maritime Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD):-
o STCW:-
Basic Fire Fighting
Personal Survival Techniques
Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
Elementary First Aid and Medical First Aid
Advanced Fire Fighting
Proficient Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
• Discharge book from country that was issued and would have been recognized by Maritime Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD).
• Valid international medical certificate which would have been recognized by Maritime Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD).
• Advanced Gas Tanker Endorsement.
• Valid passport.
• When required, a valid USA entry visa ‘C1/D’ with a minimum of 6 months validity upon joining the vessel.
• Endorsement Of Recognition by Maritime Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) - if applicable
• Designated Security Officer certificate
• Successfully completed :-
o SIGTTO
o High Voltage (Operational and Management Level as accordance to STCW 2010 syllabus)
• Have not involved in any illegal activities during the tenure as a seafarer.
• Seafarers must agree to adhere or participate in any Brunei Gas Carriers’ relevant QHSSE activities that may have impact to the reputation of the Company.
Special Abilities:
• Understanding of LNG Value Chain (Knowledge)
• Knowledge of cargo storage, vessel maintenance and navigation
• Have used marine-related software on the vessel, and able to use it day-to-day or in an emergency.
• Good Leadership skills and ability to motivate others and facilitate the way forward.
• Strong organizational skills and have strong eye for detail.
• Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to interact effectively across internally and externally.
• Be proficient in any software related with marine engineering.
