The Opportunity

The Marine Fitter is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical and structural components on the floatel. Responsibilities also include ensuring the proper functioning and safety of equipment and systems, and supporting the overall operations on the floatel.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Perform maintenance tasks, repairs, and replacements of mechanical and structural components on the floatel.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identifying the root causes and implementing appropriate solutions.
  • Conduct routine maintenance procedures, such as lubrication, alignment, and adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.

Equipment Installation:

  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering team members to ensure proper alignment, connections, and integration of equipment.
  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions and engineering drawings for installation procedures.
  • Conduct tests and inspections to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.

Welding and Fabrication:

  • Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks as required.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to carry out welding and fabrication work.
  • Select and use appropriate welding techniques and equipment for different materials and applications.
  • Ensure weld quality and structural integrity in accordance with industry standards and regulations.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Identify safety hazards and report them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in safety drills and emergency response activities.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with the engineering team to support maintenance activities and achieve operational goals.
  • Coordinate with other departments to address equipment-related issues and provide technical assistance.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior fitters or apprentices, as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding work progress and requirements.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of prior sailing experience as a fitter/on-the-job training 
  • STCW Reg. III/4 rating forming part of a watch in the engine room 
  • STCW Reg. VI/1 safety familiarization, basic training, and instruction for all seafarers
  • STCW Reg. VI/2, competence in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats
  • STCW Reg. VI/6 security-related training and instruction for all seafarers
  • STCW Crowd management training
  • Understanding welding and fabrication techniques.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures in a maritime or offshore environment.
  • Fluent communication in English
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.

Working Conditions

  • Constant standing and walking throughout the shift 
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs 
  • Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting 
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps

Wages/ Salary: $CAD (Hourly) 34.16/- to 47.55/-
