The Sørlandet Foundation
is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the S.S. Sørlandet. The Ship occupies a significant chapter in Norwegian maritime heritage.

She is, by all accounts, the jewel of the world's tall ship fleet. This recognition reflects the fact that she has been in continuous service since 1927 and today proudly meets the highest of regulatory standards for ships of her class as set out by the Norwegian Flag Authorities and the International Maritime Organization.

During the summer of 2015 She will participate in Tall Ships Races 2015 and thereafter S.S. Sørlandet will be the first of all the Nordic School Ship to set sail for a two years voyage around the world and visit more than 40 countries with our own school A+ Academy.

We are in search of highly professional, experienced and competent crew. The following position is vacant:

Chief Engineer
The Chief Engineer is responsible to perform all work related to mechanical and electrical systems on Sørlandet and ensure that they meet the Maritime authorities, the Classification and Makers requirements. The Chief Engineer are in addition responsible to fulfill the Foundation's given guidelines.

Qualifications:
> M3 (STCW III/3) or equivalent
> Minimum 1 year experience as Chief Engineer; 7 days of training on board Sørlandet
> Crowd and Crisis Management training, fluent in English.
> Basic Safety Training (STCW 95)

Highlights of responsibilities:
> The Chief Engineer will report directly to the captain in all matters pertaining to the
operation, function and condition of the ship machinery and electrical installations.
> The Chief Engineer will manage the ships technical maintenance system as administrator,
together with the other administrators Chief Officer and Administration Manager.
> The Chief Engineer is a member of the ships Protection and Environment Committee.
> The Chief Engineer shall contact the other department managers to coordinate any
adjustments in the work program and for coordinating
> Inspect and maintain engine room and all related installations, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and other
related systems
> Responsible for planning and keeping budgets under his department.
> To be a leader and team player, understanding of social dynamics, able to be an ambassador of Sørlandets core values

General conditions:
We offer competitive terms and conditions based on individual skills and competence. All crew rotates in a 1:1 system. Each rotation lasts from 9 to 12 weeks. Travels to and from the Ship are fully covered. We also have an social benefit program and we offer allowances for use of uniform and safety shoes. Insurance plan.
