AB

The Sørlandet Foundation is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the S.S. Sørlandet. The Ship
occupies a significant chapter in Norwegian maritime heritage.
She is, by all accounts, the jewel of the world's tall ship fleet. This recognition reflects the fact that she has been
in continuous service since 1927 and today proudly meets the highest of regulatory standards for ships of her
class as set out by the Norwegian Flag Authorities and the International Maritime Organization.
During the summer of 2015 She will participate in Tall Ships Races 2015 and thereafter S.S. Sørlandet will be
the first of all the Nordic School Ship to set sail for a two years voyage around the world and visit more than 40
countries with our own school A+ Academy.
We are in search of highly professional, experienced and competent crew. The following position is vacant:
AB
An AB on Sørlandet is responsible for specific responsibilities and duties linked to the Deck Department on
Sørlandet. It is expected that the AB supports the Bosun by actively taking part in the Foundation's objectives,
policies and core values.
In addition to the formal STCW requirements as defined by the Administration for an AB on Sørlandet, the
Foundation emphasizes the following personal characteristics and and additional competencies:
> An AB must have served minimum one year as an OS and another year as AB, where of minimum one
year on a Square Rigged Tall Ship Class A or B according to classification scheme used by S.T.I.
> Satisfactory Physics and Health.
> To be a Role model for our Crew, Faculty, Voyage, Passengers and Visitors.
> Emphasize on open and clear Communications with colleagues and customers.
> Report any deficiencies or errors in the Foundation’s agreed SMS without undue delay to the
Chief Officer with a Copy to the Captain.
> Fluency in English.
Sørlandet’s Deck department includes varied tasks. Foundation will therefore emphasize recruiting personnel
with competency/experience in the following areas:
Carpentry
Rigging and Sail skills
General engineering skills
Training experience
Other relevant fields of experience/skills.
General conditions:
We offer competitive terms and conditions based on individual skills and competence. All crew rotates in a 1:1
system. Each rotation lasts from 9 to 12 weeks. Travels to and from the Ship are fully covered. We also have an
social benefit program and we offer allowances for use of uniform and safety shoes. Insurance plan.
