• Take charge of a navigation watch.
• Responsible for shipboard security in the role of Ship Security Officer as required by the ISPS code.
• Ensure safe working practices of all personnel.
• Plans and effect all cargo custody and operations, including handling, administration, and documentations.
• Preparation of cargo systems for the carriage of cargo and refit requirements.
• Ballast custody and handling as the designated Ballast Management Officer.
• Preparation of safe and suitable loading/discharging plans using the loading computer, to ensure that at no time do cargo/ballast operations exceed safe stresses and the vessel always sails complying with damage stability criteria.
• Maintenance and testing of deck portable fire-fighting equipment and life-saving appliances.
• Manage deck maintenance (under Chief Engineer) of the ship, including deck stores.
• In charge of medical locker and is responsible for first aid and medical treatment.
• Maintain vessels seaworthiness and security with regards to proceeding to the sea.
• Maintain Deck Information Book and all related records.
• Ensure all deck officers are fully conversant with safe operational practices and are made fully aware of the correct methods and practices of ballasting, use of cargo pumps, valves, etc.
• Cargo watch at loading and discharging ports.
• Maintain regular checks on fixed and portable gas detection apparatus.
• Ensure all cargo/ballast/inerting valves are operational and turned on a regular basis.
• Responsible for the inspection of void spaces.
• Responsible for the proper performance of duty, including job allocation of the other navigating officers and cadets, other than in navigational matters for which they are directly responsible to the Master.
• Supervision of the Bosun and Deck Ratings when assigned to deck task, tank cleaning, cargo or ballast handling.
• Under the requirements of Annex V of Marpol the Chief Officer will act as the designated Environmental Waste Control Officer. Environmental aspects and impacts register Version 8

Required Minimum:

• Age of not more than 60 years
• Possess Class 2 Certificate of Competency (unlimited) – Chief Mate approved by the Maritime Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD)
• Have acquired 2 years of experience sailing as a Chief Officer
• Possess the following valid certifications of not less than 12 months:-

o STCW:-
 Basic Fire Fighting
 Personal Survival Techniques
 Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
 Elementary First Aid and Medical First Aid
 Advanced Fire Fighting
 Proficient Survival Craft and Rescue Boats

• Discharge book from country that was issued and recognized by Maritime Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD).
• Valid international medical certificate recognized by Maritime Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD).
• Advanced Gas Tanker Endorsement.
• Have acquired Ship Security Officer certificate.
• Valid passport.
• When required, a valid USA entry visa ‘C1/D’ with a minimum of 6 months validity upon joining the vessel.
• GMDSS; General Operators certificate.
• Endorsement Of Recognition by Maritime Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD)
• Designated Security Officer certificate
• Successfully completed :-
o Bridge Team Management (BTM)
o Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS)
o SIGTTO
o LICOS (Recommended)
• Have successfully passed the Navigational Skills Assessment Program (NSAP)
• Have not involved in any illegal activities during the tenure as a seafarer.
• Seafarers must agree to adhere or participate in any Brunei Gas Carriers’ relevant QHSSE activities that may have impact to the reputation of the Company.


Special Abilities:

• Knowledge of cargo storage, vessel maintenance and navigation
• Have used marine-related software on the vessel, and able to use it day-to-day or in an emergency.
• Good Leadership skills and ability to motivate others.
• Strong organizational skills and have strong eye for detail.
• Strong inter-personal skills and ability to interact effectively across internally and externally.
