Job Overview:
An expanding Oil and Gas Exploration Company seeks a Geoscience Support Specialistto support a busy team of Geoscientists in exploration activities. Your primary role will include the management and loading of subsurface data to technical software and providing general geoscience application support. The Company is focused on exploration in West Africa and currently has a number of licence blocks in the region spread across 5 countries, where it has already established local offices. The Company plans to build on its oil discovery in Liberia this year by drilling further exploration wells in the region during 2012-13. Two seismic surveys are also underway which will provide further insight across the Company’s acreage.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Information Systems Manager your primary responsibilities will be to:
· Identify and build relationships of trust with the geoscience user community – understanding how they utilise their existing technologies, workflows and processes
· Become competent in the Company’s software applications, work practices and workflows. Full training will be provided.
· Manage and load subsurface data to technical software such as IHS’ Kingdom and Paradigm’s SeisEarth applications.
· Provide support and user assistance to the team of geoscientists in the operational use of applications.
· Transfer data between projects and software packages.
· Carry out mapping projects – map horizons in time and depth domains.
· Support geoscientists in using GIS products
· Assist with prospect and field volumetric calculation
· Liase with colleagues, service providers and vendors in the UK and internationally.
· Provision of troubleshooting to application users, including advising users on good data management practices, workflows…
· Conduct industry research as required and assist in preparing presentations
· Be proactive in advancing your knowledge base – stay abreast of industry activities relating to data management and geoscience applications.
· Work in a professional and timely manner ensuring all queries and tasks are responded to with a high level of satisfaction.

Preferences:
The successful candidate will have:
· Degree in geology, geophysics or related subject essential.
· At least 3 years industry experience with an upstream oil and gas company, service company or technical software vendor essential.
· Previous experience in loading seismic and well data essential.
· Some experience using or supporting geoscience applications essential. (Preferably Kingdom, Paradigm’s SeisEarth, Petrosys and/or ArcGIS).
· Previous experience in producing maps in time/depth domain advantageous (Preferably using Petrosys).
· An understanding of GIS data environments desired – preferably ArcGIS.
· Must be highly flexible – able and willing to take on additional tasks, to develop additional skills and to grow with the Company.
· The ability to take ownership and leadership of tasks required and to complete them to a high level of satisfaction.
· Excellent interpersonal and communications skills – the ability to listen accurately and articulate clearly to convey effective and accurate support essential.
· Strong desire to advance your technical knowledge of leading edge products.
· Confident and self-reliant – the ability to approach problems in a systematic manner and to resolve.
· Good time management – ability to multitask, prioritise current demands and to deliver a high level of service across the geoscience community.
· Self-motivated – ability to take on tasks independently but also to source help as required.
· Enthusiasm, drive and ambition to succeed.
Package:
Dependent on skills and experience, a Base Salary of £35K – £55K is on offer plus Company benefits.
