Job Overview: A leading International Services Company in the Oil and Gas industry is seeking a Manager to head up their Drilling and Completions Consultancy practice across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa (ESSA). You will lead all operations for this practice, managing the consulting team and ensuring business growth through the delivery of premium customer services. This role is ideal for experienced design engineers or business development professionals in drilling in the rapidly growing business segment of drilling and completions consulting. You will have direct profit/loss responsibility for revenue streams circa $10-$20M of this high growth, strategic business unit.

The Company is a highly reputable global player in the energy industry with consulting practice and product lines spanning all aspects of the upstream oil cycle – from finding hydrocarbons to evaluating the prospects, building the wells, and managing and optimising the production process on behalf of their clients. Their integration of expertise and processes with advanced software technologies, real-time workflows and robust information management processes, helps clients maximize production across their assets.

In this senior level role you will recruit, train and manage an expert team to help client solve their most difficult well construction and design challenges. These consulting services enable clients to deliver more efficiently safe, effective and environmentally conscious engineering solutions to their organization.

You will operate with peers in adjacent disciplines such as G&G, Real-Time Solutions and Geomechanics allowing them to not only deliver value in their domain of expertise, but to bundle with other consulting systems to create unique and innovative solutions to increasingly complex challenges posed by Clients.

You will ensure that key objectives for growth are defined and understood across stakeholders, effective strategies are developed to deliver these objectives, and that the reputation of the organisation is safeguarded and that the awareness of solution offerings and reputation is raised.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Global Head of Drilling and Completions Consultancy your primary responsibilities will be to:

Become competent in the Company business practices, process and technologies used within drilling and completions.
Build close relationships of trust with all internal key stakeholders, understanding how the various departments add value and how they consultancy services can be leveraged for additional services and revenue stream.
Be proactive in understanding the market (competitors, trends, practices, opportunities, threats..), the clients (players, technologies used, services, challenges, constraints…) and competitors (strengths, weaknesses…).
Full participation in business development – be proactive in increasing revenue stream for this practice by delivering premium services, raising awareness and reputation and leveraging services across other practices.
Manage consulting financial performance including revenue and GP. Develop annual business plan and manage on-going forecasts of business performance for the practice.
Responsible for the direct profit/loss management of revenue stream circa $10-$20M. This is a high growth, strategic business unit and your role is to further develop.
Ensure efficient utilization of assigned resources and project profitability, service quality and your team across the ESSA region.
Deliver cost effective solution development, mange deployment and implementation of projects, ensuring adherence to all aspects of HSE for projects undertaken for clients.
Ensure effective utilization of functional staff – establish competency requirements and implement associated training. Ensure you have the skills and competencies for current needs and future growth of the practice.
Promote knowledge transfer, mentoring of peers, and consistent implementation of company policies and adherence to operating standards and procedures.
Identify the industry best practices and translate them into consulting solutions and competitive positioning.
This is a strategic role effecting the profitability and reputation of the Company and as such your main focus will be on managing and driving future growth of this consultancy practice across the ESSA region. You may have proven technical capabilities looking to take on a more strategic role, or have supervisor or management experience of consultancy services or you may be a business develop within this sector. The Company is open and flexible to motivated individuals interested in taking on this challenging and exciting role within drilling and completions.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

Degree essential. Managerial qualification advantageous.
Minimum of 10 years oil and gas industry expereince with a background in well construction / design activites essential.
Previous experience in technically undertaking, delivering, supervising or managing drilling and completions services essential. Experience working in a consultancy house highly advantageous.
Previous experience in business development activities highly advantageous. The ability to think strategically and develop long term strategic plans is essential.
Experience of industry standard drilling and completions applications essential (e.g. Dims, OpenWells, Compass, Compass, Petrel Drilling, and/or Well Plan). This could be working with, supporting or/and consulting with these tools.
Highly analytical with the ability to resolve complex problems and articulate the solution effectively essential.
Strong commercial acumen – the ability to devise, monitor, manage and communicate plans and forecasts effectively.
Previous experience working in Europe and/or Sub-Saharan Africa advantageous.
Previous experience managing budgets, or/and having profit and loss accountability advantageous.
Strong leadership skills with the personality and confidence to lead, secure commitment, and manage and drive success.
Proven ability to build relationships, influence and gain commitment of, internal business leaders and key stakeholders and externally with clients, suppliers and third parties.
Highly diplomatic, ability to work across cultures essential.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and a high attention to detail.

Package: This is a strategic level position and as such a Base Salary of £75K – £125K (GBP) plus attractive bonus potential and Company Benefits is on offer dependent on skills and experiences.
