Job Overview: A fast-growing upstream Oil and Gas Products and Services Company is seeking a Systems Engineer to join their Operations Delivery & Support Team for Eastern Hemisphere. With a good understanding of Windows or Linux system environments and data management systems, you will install, configure and integrate the Company’s data store within the Client’s system and petrotechnical environments. It is an exciting role for a candidate who has previous system installation and data management experience, strong client-facing skills and interested in international travel. Naturally installation and configuration training in this proprietary software will be provided. The key requirements are technical competency, willingness to learn, flexibility and desire to undertake the role and succeed.

The Company develops and markets software products and professional services, forming solutions that can greatly reduce project cycle times, saving money for all stakeholders in a business process. Their clients include organizations of all sizes from small to medium to a host of prestigious oil majors, located globally. The demand for their products and services is expanding and this role will provide support to their growing user community across Europe, Africa, Middle East and Far East / Asia Pacific regions.

Around the world, the Company’s Data Management system is recognized as the industry-leading solution for loading, managing, storing, processing and distributing well borehole data. Residing on Windows or Linux system environments, it offers scalability and agility, serving single-use laptops and project data stores as well as corporate databases and national archives. It is highly reliable de facto data store for an oil Company’s petrotechnical community, including borehole data specialists, data technicians, petrophysicists, geologists, geophysicists and engineers.

Working within the support group for their geological/petrophysical software applications and database systems, you will provide system environment support to the Company’s growing user community across the regions.

This role offers a great opportunity for a dynamic self-motivated individual with strong IT system skills, good appreciation and knowledge of data management systems and who enjoys travelling. It would be suited to a graduate or/and someone with a few years’ experience.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, this role encompasses many functions including:

Become competent in the use of the Company’s system environments (Windows and Linux), their geological/petrophysical data stores, workflows and practices. Training will be provided as required.
Understand client’s system environment – what geoscience applications they have installed, how they are configured, how they are integrated, what data stores are attached and how they are customised. More importantly, you will have to understand the data workflow of this community.
Install the Company’s geological/petrophysics data application at oil company clients. Configure the data store for their system environment (e.g. Windows or Linux). A suite of library tools are available to do this but some scripting may be required.
Ensure that licensing permissions are correct, and that the required individuals have access rights set for the safe, secure storage of their data.
Ensure that the data application is fully integrated with the Client’s other geoscience technologies (i.e. data stores or/and software applications). Interface tools are available but again some configuration may be necessary.
Work with clients to optimise this data store within their system environment and petrotechnical workflow.
As required, support the Company’s DM Consultancy services team to assist clients in data migration projects and the transferring of corporate data from this data store into project and application data stores for processing and interpretation.
Support clients via onsite (e.g. 1 to 3 weeks at a time) or via remote access.
In order to help manage and enhance customer relations, you will provide regular follow-up calls to clients in a timely and professional manner, visit client sites to resolve problems etc., provide status updates, and report problems to the Customer Support Manager.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

Degree in a numerate discipline such as computer science, IT, or geoscience related essential. A geology/logging/petrophysical academic background advantageous.
Experienced in software installations on Windows or/and Linux system environments essential.
Good practical experience and knowledge of using or/and supporting relational databases essential. Oracle and SQL+ advantageous.
Experience of installing geological/petrophysical data stores highly desired (e.g. Recall, Geolog…).
Some Windows/Linux scripting experience essential.
Excellent project management and reporting skills essential – must be able to multitask and be methodical in approach.
Excellent communication skills as you will deal with clients across Europe, Africa, Middle East and Far East region.
Excellent communication skills – ability to relay technical information in a easy to understand manner and ability to demonstrate technology solution to Geoscience professionals.
Motivated and enthusiastic with a positive attitude.
Attentiveness to detail & responsive to client needs.
Can work independently and also be an excellent team player – must be able to deliver installations effectively.
Highly flexible – ability to adapt to new project challenges and work practices.
Drive and ambition to succeed within a fast growing Company.
European languages beneficial.
Must be able to travel internationally.
Package: An attractive highly competitive Base Salary of £30K – £45K plus bonus scheme is on offer dependent on skills and experience. Benefits include: 25 days’ paid vacation per year, Contributory pension scheme and free private health care and disability cover.
